Hands up who likes Rhubarb?!
It's Rhubarb Festival Week:
Monday 17 February to Sunday 23 February
Market Hall Opening times: 10am-5pm every day
The site of 2019’s Festival of the Moon is back, transformed from space-age splendour to agricultural extravaganza - think hay bales, bunting, and rustic charm.
Open Monday to Sunday, this is a real family space, with a cosy reading corner, kids’ Activity Zone (including an awesome rhubarb videogame, which has to be played to be believed) and storytelling workshops.
There’s plenty for grown-ups too. Highlights include a community-led rhubarb recipe exchange, the photographic Heritage of Rhubarb exhibition, exclusive photographs from Martin Parr's Rhubarb Triangle, and – prepare to be intrigued – the Rhubarb Shed, an immersive experience where visitors learn about the cultivation of the plucky pink vegetable, and watch (and hear!) it grow before their eyes.
How does your garden grow?
The star of the Market Hall is the Rhubarb Shed. Two hundred shoots of real rhubarb, growing by the light of candles right in the heart of the city. As well as videos enlightening visitors about the history and growing of rhubarb, the shed also features the Rhubarb Lanterns – a stunning participatory community art installation.
Rhubarb Activity Zone:
Monday 17 - Sunday 23 February
Badge-making: 10am - 3pm
Digital Activity: 10am - 3pm
Lantern-making workshop: 10am - 3pm
Storytelling Children's Workshop: Performances at 11am, 1pm and 3pm
